Alestes fish are a genus of freshwater ray-finned fish belonging to the family Alestidae, which are native to Africa. They are commonly known as African tetras and are characterized by their elongated body shape, silver coloration with blue or green on the back, and a distinctive lateral line. Many species are commercially important food fish.
The carp is a hardy greenish brown fish. It is native to Eurasia but has been introduced into Africa and elsewhere. A large-scaled fish with two barbells on each side of its upper jaw, the carp lives alone or in small schools in quiet weedy mud-bottomed ponds, lakes, and rivers.
