- Appearance: Kribs have a greyish base color with a darker horizontal stripe and a reddish-pink belly, especially prominent in females. Males are typically larger and more colorful than females. They also come in various color morphs like “super red” and “Nigeria yellow”.
- Size: They reach a maximum size of around 4 inches (10 cm).
- Origin: They are native to West Africa, specifically coastal regions of Benin, Nigeria, and Cameroon.
- Temperament: Generally peaceful, but can be territorial, especially during breeding.
- Diet: Omnivores, accepting flake or pellet food, frozen and live foods like brine shrimp and bloodworms, and even vegetables.
- Lifespan: Typically live for 5-8 years.
- Breeding: They are shelter breeders, spawning in caves or cave-like structures. Females display bright colors and will lay 50-300 eggs, which the parents will then guard and care for.
- Tank Setup: They thrive in aquariums with plenty of hiding places, like caves or upturned flower pots, and prefer soft, slightly acidic water with a temperature range of 75°F – 79°F (24°C – 26°C).
